Check out my interpretation on this insightful documentary about marketing and advertising.

The Greatest Movie Ever Sold is everything from a serious documentary to a comedy. After thinking outside the box, Morgan Spurlock has come up with creative ways to make a documentary about product placement. After getting sponsorships from a variety of organizations, the movie was 100% paid for. Each organization had its own terms and conditions and created transparency throughout the movie. Spurlock raised a lot of attention through media and interviews for his unique approach in his documentary.
The watchers of The Greatest Movie Ever Sold get a great view of what happens behind closed doors for those making business deals. The viewers get insight and begin learning about marketing pitches and real business meetings. Not only is this a comedy, but it is also an informative documentary with a unique look at sponsorships. The sponsors of the movie agreed to terms and conditions to ensure that their logo was visibly seen throughout the movie to gain attention. With strong partnership agreements, the watcher can see that Spurlock had complete creative control making this a unique experience to watch.
Throughout the movie, you see the effects of marketing on consumers. You get a good insight into how consumers can be manipulated into buying something through marketing techniques. But why do companies spend a lot of resources on advertising? Companies ensure that there is enough budgeting for proper and efficient marketing/ advertising for their products and services. They also ensure that the most talented employees are on their marketing team. But why? Though Spurlock didn’t dive as deep into this question as I hoped, he does provide an entertaining and educational way to shine a light on this unique perspective.
The secret to the success of the documentary is the placement of the sponsored products throughout the documentary. This includes knowing when it's the right time to pick up that drink or eat that pizza. Or even have that perfect shot of the product in the background. This concept is what makes companies money by selling the products through the focus of psychology.
Spurlock dives deep into the concepts of marketing that we don’t think about in society. This is the idea of thinking outside the box, being creative, and being innovative. What can you do differently that other companies don’t? Will this stand out compared to your leading competitor? He also highlights how marketers and companies can actually become stalkerish in their ways of selling. They have become too good at their jobs. The importance of empathy is also shown in the documentary during the school ad’s scene. Companies and people are more willing to spend the money on advertising if they know there is a cause behind it.
The Greatest Movie Ever Sold is just another one of Spurlock’s creative movies that get people thinking just a little differently. After several successful films, this one holds up to the standards that were surrounding this unique film. If you want an entertaining but informational way to learn about corporate sponsorship and its effects on our daily life, this is the perfect film for you.
